"American" History

Blood Stained glass
Blood Stained past
Families aghast
In comes Catholic mass.

Head of the class
Assimilated lass
Lad’s braids cast
Punishments vast.

Continental Congress
In Sheep’s clothes dress
Treaties to redress
"Special Relationship" just repressed.

Westward Expansion
Gluttons in ranchin’
Excessive mansion
"Earned" from land grantin’.

Senseless kills
By ego-driven wills
Doesn’t matter how many bills
You throw at Black Hills.

Lands stolen
Never “ours” to be dolin’
Pockets got swollen
By empty cajolin’.

Wounded Knee
And White Man’s decrees
Stolen identities
And you say “we’re” free?

Hotchkisses cracked
At Ghost Dance, attacked
Village ransacked
While Government backed.

All at what cost?
Full, rich culture lost
Language awashed
By English’s accost.

I take not
Lest it all be forgot
Forgiveness sought
For my children to be taught

Truths behind lies
Freeing ghostly cries
"Don’t forgets," that belies
History’s disguise.

We should have learned
Too long history burned
False truths urned
As dead soul’s yearned

For Futures to be written
Generations’ new bulls sittin’
Rainbow tribe now mixin’
Christenin’ tolerant livin’.

Oceti Sakowin’s their name
No more shame
Never to be tamed
Culture forevermore, re-claimed.

Black, White, Yellow, Red
Listenin’ to what’s said
Behind soul’s that bled
For today’s love’s wed.

The Lovers
An embrace to endure eternityLovers leap from the cliffLeaving Life at the ledge.Mid-Air they kiss,A kiss to court all Time,As they plunge to the Depths.
Tumbling, Air assuaging them,Free and Wild with the Wind,A freedom with no bounds."I Love You" condensates from her Lips,As droplets land on his skin.He draws her closer.
"Don’t look down," he whispers."Breathe in every ending,Breathe out each beginning.Let go as you open your eyes.Feel my touch with everyCaress of your curves.”
In their reverie,Air thickens and Earth quakes,Funneling them to the foundationBeneath, awaiting their arrival.Ruby Rocks catch them,Welcoming the Lovers to their lair.
Moonlight firing pale skin,Freckles join the stars above.Heaven kissed foreheads bowWhile rosy cheeks ripenBurgeoning passions. QuickeningPulses synchronize with Earth’s drumming.
Gazing at one another,The Lovers shed their skin and bones,Releasing their souls to rejoin the ethereal dance.Taking one last breath, spilling it in spirals,They dissolve the material of their matter.Immortalizing among Ruby Rocks.

The Lovers

An embrace to endure eternity
Lovers leap from the cliff
Leaving Life at the ledge.
Mid-Air they kiss,
A kiss to court all Time,
As they plunge to the Depths.

Tumbling, Air assuaging them,
Free and Wild with the Wind,
A freedom with no bounds.
"I Love You" condensates from her Lips,
As droplets land on his skin.
He draws her closer.

"Don’t look down," he whispers.
"Breathe in every ending,
Breathe out each beginning.
Let go as you open your eyes.
Feel my touch with every
Caress of your curves.”

In their reverie,
Air thickens and Earth quakes,
Funneling them to the foundation
Beneath, awaiting their arrival.
Ruby Rocks catch them,
Welcoming the Lovers to their lair.

Moonlight firing pale skin,
Freckles join the stars above.
Heaven kissed foreheads bow
While rosy cheeks ripen
Burgeoning passions. Quickening
Pulses synchronize with Earth’s drumming.

Gazing at one another,
The Lovers shed their skin and bones,
Releasing their souls to rejoin the ethereal dance.
Taking one last breath, spilling it in spirals,
They dissolve the material of their matter.
Immortalizing among Ruby Rocks.

Alabaster
Plaster
The Master
Typecaster.

With Wet
Cement
I lament
Fear it’s permanent.

Chiseling
Here’s the thing
Was dizzying
Mind altering.

The Plaster
Dried Faster
Couldn’t blast her-
The Spell caster.

Lackluster
Ball buster
Men to fluster
All she could muster.

Masquerade
Whole charade
Made me frayed
In her violin’s serenade.

She controlled
I was cajoled
Couldn’t get paroled
Is how it rolled.

Anger to red
Soul wound bled
Tomorrow’s day’s dread
Words to be said.

You is you
Who is who
Fade to blue
Sorrow rings true.

Life’s suprises
All these disguises
Manipulizes
As the “real world” criticizes.

But I took a turn
Ended my sojourn
Decided to learn
To better discern

The naked face
Mine to embrace
Friends to grace
As I held my space.

I pulled through
The me inside grew
Stretched my worldview
Felt my Self renew.

Temptation thwarted
To be genuine rewarded
Became straightforward
Real in life came forward.

Life without masks
The everyday task
Shed the burl-asque
In order to bask

In the glow
But I want you to know
You can show
You, even in woe.

We to show
The real sorrow
Buried below
So long ago.

Fake us to rip up
Truth serum sipped up
Saccharin syrup
Forevermore given up.

Costumes unzip
No more ego trips
Truth from our lips
Deepening friendship.

You be real
I unconceal
Together we feel
At long last, we heal.

What a Time We Live In…
A time when women and men have the choice to stay home to raise children…A time when men and women have a choice to be part of the work force…A time when a white man and black women stroll in public, holding hands as unrestrained evidence of their love and devotion.A time when we are invited to learn the medicine ways of our native peoples…A time when the open road invites us into new world-views…A time when borders are thinning and the veil is lifting.
Don’t you realize? We have not just earned our freedom. We have chosen to allow the right to choose to be free. Freedom is a choice. It begins with the dream of a new way of living…A way of being that is not prescribed or handed down to us…A way that brings us closer to our fellow beings, respects and honors them. Then, we must walk in the footsteps of that life, live it, and take action in it.

Perception Reflection
When you reflect on your perception, Are you a “glass half full”Or “glass half empty” perceiver? Pessimist or optimist?
What if, instead, you were all of the above, Perceiving the world asChaotic AND ordered, Peaceful AND tumultuous, Sorrowful AND joyful?
Perceiving life in this wayHonors its complexity, Allows all that is there to be seen, And fosters wholeness within.

Inti Tayta

Father Sun,
Enrapture me with your sacred embrace that I may feel unceasing comfort.

Eternal Flame,
Strengthen my internal fire that I may act always with impeccable power.

Radiant Star,
Illuminate the darkness within that I may shine without and show merciful compassion.

Inti Tayta,
Ignite every cell of my being that I may know unified, sanctified, transcendent wisdom.

Hawk Medicine

She will capture you with her eyes,
Fix you in her gaze
If Hawk has set her sights on you.
With ever focused desire,
Penetrating speed and agility
She will dive into your luminous,
Essential nature;
Reigniting your once wild abandon.
You will spin in fierce ecstasy
As moment upon moment of your life
Transposes before you.

When the spinning stops,
You will look down
And be reminded of your original Spirit flight
When the sweet, cool Air
Held you as your wings intertwined.
You will see Mother Earth below you
Holding her safety net of soft, green grass.
In this moment, you will know,
You will realize
You never stopped soaring
And you were never alone.
